Banned books! Hooray!
So I’m looking up the ALA’s list of banned and challenged books to see which ones I’ve read:
- Great Gatsby, F Scott Fitzgerald
- Cather in the Rye, JD Salinger
- To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee
- Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck
- Catch-22, Joseph Heller
- A Farewell to Arms, Ernest Hemingway
- The Jungle, Upton Sinclair
- Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya
- Blubber, Judy Blume
- Speak, Laurie Halse Anderson
- A Wrinkle in Time, Madeline L’Engle
- The Giver, Lois Lowry
- The Outsiders, SE Hinton
I looked at the list of challenged classics, and most frequently challenged books for 1990-1999 and 2000-2009. I haven’t necessarily enjoyed all the books above, but I’m thankful I had the opportunity to read them. Those of you who see this and are interested should make a list of banned books you’ve read.
